Therapeutic Class
Macrolides
Pharmacology
Zimax 500 mg is a member of the azalide macrolide category of antibiotics. Zimax 500 mg attaches itself to the 50s ribosomal subunit of vulnerable species to stop microbial protein synthesis. Both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Bordetella pertussis, Bordetella parapertussis, Borrelia burgdorferi, Haemophilus ducreyi, and Neisseria gonorrhoeae, as well as anaerobes such Bacteroides fragilis, Escherichia coli, and Moraxella catarrhalis Additionally, Zimax 500 mg has been shown to be effective against hominins, Toxoplasma gondii, Treponema pallidum, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Legionella pneumophila, and Campylobacter sp. in vitro tests.
Dosage of Zimax 500 mg
Adult: Take 500 mg orally once a day for three days, or 500 mg on day one, followed by 250 mg once every two to five days for four days. Adults with sexually transmitted infections brought on by Chlamydia trachomatis can get a single dosage of 1 gm or 500 mg once on day 1 and 250 mg once daily for the next two days. For children over six months, take 10 mg/kg body weight once day for three days. If the child weighs 15–25 kg, take 200 mg (1 teaspoonful) for three days. If the body weight is 26–35 kg, take 300 mg (1½ teaspoonfuls) for three days; if the body weight is 36–45 kg, take 400 mg (2 teaspoonfuls) for three days. In typhoid fever, 500 mg (21/2 teaspoonfuls) once daily for 7-10 days is given.
Administration of Zimax 500 mg
Step 1 of the reinstatement process following suspension is to shake the bottle vigorously to disperse the powder. Step 2: Fill the bottle to the label's watermark with boiled and chilled water. Step 3: Thoroughly blend the powder and water. At least one hour before or two hours after eating, take 500 mg of Zimax.
Interaction of Zimax 500 mg
In the presence of food and antacids, the absorption of Zimax 500 mg is reduced. Zimax 500 mg should not be used in patients receiving ergot alkaloids because of the possibility of ergotism caused by an interaction between Zimax 500 mg and the cytochrome P-450 system. Because macrolides increase the plasma levels of digoxin and cyclosporin, caution should be used when co-administration is involved. Zimax 500 mg does not interact with warfarin, theophylline, carbamazepine, methylprednisolone, or cimetidine.
Contraindications
Zimax 500 mg should not be taken by anyone who is hypersensitive to it or any other macrolide antibiotic. Zimax 500 mg and ergot derivatives shouldn't be taken simultaneously. Zimax 500 mg should not be used by anyone who have liver problems.
Side Effects of Zimax 500 mg
After using 500 mg of Zimax, there are sporadic side effects. Nausea, vomiting, cramping or pain in the abdomen, flatulence, diarrhoea, migraines, and skin rashes are among the side effects that can be reversed with a therapeutic withdrawal.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Zimax 500 mg falls into category B during pregnancy. There is no proof that 500 mg of Zimax would harm the foetus, according to research on animal reproduction. There haven't been any decent, controlled research on pregnant women. Because studies on animal reproduction are not necessarily representative of human response, Zimax 500 mg should only be taken during pregnancy if no other appropriate alternatives are available. It is uncertain if Zimax 500 mg is present in breast milk. Therefore, caution should be used when administering 500 mg of Zimax to nursing moms.
Precautions & Warnings
When using any antibiotic, it is recommended to monitor for any signs of superinfection with non-susceptible organisms, such as fungus. A dose modification is not necessary for people with renal impairment.
Overdose Effects of Zimax 500 mg
Overdosing on Zimax 500 mg is not documented. Hearing loss, severe nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea are all possible side effects of a macrolide antibiotic overdose. It is recommended that gastric lavage and other supportive therapies be used.
